DRIVING
Starting procedure
1. Apply the park brake rmly and release it only after you have started the engine
and are ready to drive away.
2.
Manual transmission: Fully depress the clutch pedal to the oor, move the gear
shift lever to the N (neutral) position then crank the engine. The clutch pedal can
now be released.
Automatic
transmission: Move the shift lever to the P (park) or N (neutral) position.
The engine will not start if it is in any other position. As a safety precaution, you
should have your foot on the brake pedal in order to shift the transmission lever out
of the P (park) position.
3.
Start the engine as outlined below.
For cold or hot starting, the procedure is the same. Do not touch the accelerator
pedal.
Petrol engine: Turn the key to the START position momentarily and then release it,
as the engine starts automatically. The key automatically returns to the ON position
when released.
Diesel engine: Turn the key to the ON position, when the glow plug
(preheat system) indicator lamp ! extinguishes, turn the key to the START
position until the engine starts. The key automatically returns to the ON position
when released.
Note Diesel preheating (glow plugs) system switches on only if outside temperature
is low.
If
the engine does not start within 10 seconds, wait another 15 seconds to let
the starter motor cool down. Turn the key to start again with the accelerator
pedal
pushed completely down to the oor for a maximum of 10 seconds. If the
engine still does not start, release the key and pedal. Wait another 15 seconds
and then repeat the entire procedure. If the engine still fails to start, contact your
Holden Dealer.
Engine will not crank or start
Remove the key from the ignition switch, insert the key and try starting the engine
again.
Note If the immobiliser system indicator lamp o illuminates while attempting to
start the vehicle, a fault in the vehicle’s immobiliser module may be indicated. The
vehicle will not start with an immobiliser fault, contact your Holder Dealer to have the
fault rectied.
WARNING – PETROL ENGINE
When trying to start the engine, do not hold the key in the start position for any
extended time, for if unburnt fuel were to reach the catalytic converter and ignite,
the catalytic converter could overheat or be destroyed by backre.
Note You should not subject the engine to high load conditions (for example full throttle
acceleration or high speeds) until it has completely warmed up. Otherwise, you may
cause premature engine wear or engine damage.
