WEEKLY CHECKS
Tyre air pressure
Weekly checking of the air pressure of your tyres (including the spare) ensures your
safety, as well as reducing fuel consumption and increasing the life of your tyres. See
the tyre placard located on the pillar below the driver’s door latch, for the recommended
tyre pressures.
For constant long distance or rough road driving, daily checking is recommended.
If the vehicle is heavily loaded, the recommended pressure for the tyres is increased.
As the tyres are operating under greater load, the weekly air pressure check becomes
even more important.
Tyre ination pressure increases when the tyres have been driven more than 2 km.
Therefore, the pressure should be checked when the tyres have been stationary for
over three hours. If they must be checked immediately after driving, increase the
pressure shown on the placard by 10 % relative to the cold tyre ination pressure.
The ination pressure in the tyres should be increased according to the load on the
vehicle. Therefore, if the vehicle is loaded to half the maximum load shown on the
compliance label, then the tyres should be inated half way between the minimum and
maximum pressures given on the tyre placard. Vehicles driven for prolonged periods
over rough roads, particularly in outback conditions, should use the cold tyre ination
pressure on the tyre placard for maximum load condition.
Always use a tyre pressure gauge to check the tyres ination; simply looking at the
tyres is not sufcient.
If the pressure is too low, this can result in considerable tyre warm-up and internal
damage, leading to tread separation and even to tyre blowout at high speeds.
If the pressure is too high, this can result in reduced traction, increased risk of tyre
blowout and poor tyre wear.
Remember to replace any valve dust caps or extensions, as this stops dirt and
moisture from fouling the valves. When checking the tyre air pressure, take a look at
the condition of the tyre tread and inspect for stones or abnormal wear.
Tyre condition and rim condition
Driving over sharp edges can lead to hidden tyre damage and rim damage, which can
lead to tyre blowout, drive over edges slowly and at right angles if possible.
When parking, ensure the tyres are not pressed against the edge of the curb.
Check the tyres regularly for: damage, stones, punctures, cuts, cracks, bulges etc.
Check the rims for damage. Consult a Holden Dealer, if in doubt.
