Chapter 7
WEEKLY CHECKS
To check engine coolant level
The level of the coolant should be checked
weekly. This is simply a matter of looking
at the level in the plastic container, called
the coolant reservoir.
Check the level of the coolant and replenish
the coolant reservoir as necessary. When
the engine is cool, if the level of coolant
in the reservoir is found to be lower than
the MIN line, check the cooling system for
leaks, then replenish to bring the level up
to the MAX line.
WARNING
Do not over ll the coolant reservoir.
Only use specied coolant, refer to Specications in chapter 8. Do not mix
different coolants as this may damage the engine cooling system.
Remove the coolant reservoir ller cap only.
Always check the coolant level when the engine is cold. Steam and scalding
liquids from a hot cooling system can blow out and cause serious burns.
Do not spill coolant on the vehicle’s exterior surfaces. It can damage the
paintwork. If you do, wash it off immediately.
To add engine coolant
If the coolant reservoir requires topping up, rst pre-mix a solution of 50 % coolant
(refer to Specications in chapter 8) and 50 % water.
Ensure the ignition is switched off.
Undo the cap on the top of the coolant reservoir, add the pre-mixed solution and secure
the cap.
Failure to use the coolant meeting Holden’s specication or maintaining the specied
concentration may result in voiding your warranty.
In emergency situations, plain water may be used temporarily until the correct coolant
is obtained as soon as possible from the nearest Holden Dealer.
The specied coolant works in three ways: it contains special corrosion inhibitors, it
helps the cooling system in hot weather by increasing the boiling point and it protects
against freezing down to -30 °C, provided the correct concentration is maintained.
If you regularly have to top up the cooling system you should contact your
Holden Dealer.
WARNING
Corrosion inhibitors and antifreeze uids are poisonous. Use extreme care when
handling. If swallowed seek medical attention.
If the engine overheats, refer to Engine overheating in chapter 6.
