Adjusting the sound
You can adjust all of your television's sound setting by using a pair
of buttons: select a setting with the AUDIO button and adjust the
function with the up/down or right/lefL buttons. You use these
buttons to:
• select a position (e.g., stereo),
• increase or decrease the function (e.g., bass), or
• shift from one end of a scale to tile other (e.g., balance).
While adjusting the sound, an on-screen display will indicate the
setting and level you are adjusting.
DImportant:
what you will adjust:
"Listen to: Stereo/SAP/Mono" allows you to change the audio recep-
tion mode to stereo, separate audio programming (,SAP), or monau-
ral (mono), depending on the type of broadcast you are receiving.
As you select the reception mode, remember the following:
• The "Stereo" setting allows you to receive both mono and stereo
broadcasts.
Some TV stations will broadcast second audio program, or
S.A.P., signal. This signal is an additional soundtrack that you
can't hear during normal TV viewing. An S.A.P. signal might be
related to the program you are watching (e.g., a soundtrack in a
foreign language), or it might be unrelated (e.g., a weather
report). If a channel is broadcasting an S.A.P. signal, the letters
"SAP" will appear on-screen when you tune to that channel.
Choose "Listen to: SAP" to hear the S.A.P. signal.
The "Mono" setting reduces unwan_ed background noise when
you are receiving a weak stereo broadcast. When you use the
"Mono" setting, you will hear the broadcast in monaural even
when the broadcast signal is in s_ereo.
An on-screen display appears when programs are broadcast in
stereo or when separate audio programming (SAP) is available.
"Bass" controls the volume of low frequency sound.
"Treble" controls the w_lume of high fr,equency sound.
"Balance" adjusts the level of sound between the left and right
speakers.
"Surround:off/Simulate/Hair' allows you to create s:[mulated
surround stereo effects. "Off' does not. change the sound.
"Simulate" gives you a simulated stereo effect when you are
listening to a monoaural broadcast. "Hall" makes stereo sound
have a wider range and seem to extend around behind you.
"Speaker: On/Off' turns the TV's internal speakers on or off. Set to
"On" for normal operation; set to "Off' is you have connected your
TV to an audio system.
