4. Disconnect the relay’s ground lead from the mid-
dle tab of the blade brake switch.
See Figure 6.14.
5. Work the lead out of the two retaining clips.
6. Install the relay by following the previous steps in
reverse order.
7. Test run the engine before returning it to service.

Testing the starter relay
To test the starter relay:
1. Unplug the starter harness.
2. Unbolt the relay from the engine.
3. Disconnect the two 12 AWG wires from the bot-
tom of the relay.
4. Disconnect the relay’s ground lead from the mid-
dle tab of the blade brake switch.
See Figure 6.14.
5. Connect a digital multimeter (DMM), that is set
to the Ohms (Ω) scale, to the two terminals on
the bottom of the relay. See Figure 6.15.
NOTE: The DMM should read no continuity or
open line.
