14. Push the piston out of the cylinder.
15. Remove the piston rings from the piston using a
pair of piston ring pliers. See Figure 10.7.
16. Remove the crank shaft. See Figure 10.8.

The internal components of the MTD engine are not
available as service parts. The intent of this chapter is
to provide the technician the procedures to examine an
engine and to provide the specification to determine if
an engine is worn out. All of the specifications are listed
in a chart at the end of the chapter.
Crank shaft inspection
1. Inspect the crank shaft journals for galling, scor-
ing, pitting or any other form of damage.
2. Measure the journals at the bearing contact
points using a vernier caliper or a micrometer.

3. Inspect the crankpin for galling, scoring, pitting
or any other form of damage.
