TheRADWINSerialHubSiteSynchronization(SHSS)methodusesacableconnected
fromthemas terODUtoallcollocatedODUs;thiscablecarriespulsessenttoeach
ODU,whichsynchronizetheirtransmissionwitheachother.SHSSiscoveredinChap‐
ter12.
» EthernetHSS
TheEthernetHSS(HSSoE)methodrequiresLayer2Ethernetconnectivitybetween
collocatedODUs.Ithastworequirements:
• Collocated ODUsprovidingEthernetservicesonly,shouldbeconnectedtoanIDU‐H
insteadofregularPoEdevices.Othersimpleswitchesmayworkwithdegradedper‐
formance.Theyarenotrecommendedandproblemsarisingfromtheirusewillnot
beeligibleforanykindofsupport.
• Collocated ODUsprovidingE1/T1servicesshoulduseanIDU‐CorIDU‐Eandthenbe
connectedtoanIDU‐Hfunctioningasaswitch.OneoftheLANportsontheIDU‐Cor
IDU‐EisconnectedtoanyofthesixIDU‐HPoEportsorthetwoLANports.(Thisis
possiblebecausetheIDU‐CorIDU‐ELANcableonlyusesfourpinsfordata;the
powerpinsarenotusedsothereisnoriskofdamagetothem.)Inthisway,upto
eightsuchODUsmaybecollocated.
