Cabletypesandlength
Itisimportanttousecablesoftheappropriatetypeandlength
•Unlessotherwisestateduseonlystandardcablesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarine.
•Ensurethatanynon-Raymarinecablesareofthecorrectqualityandgauge.Forexample,longer
powercablerunsmayrequirelargerwiregaugestominimizevoltagedropalongtherun.
Routingcables
Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximizeperformanceandprolongcablelife.
•DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,ensureaminimumbenddiameterof200
mm(8in)/minimumbendradiusof100mm(4in).
•Protectallcablesfromphysicaldamageande xposuretoheat.Usetrunkingorconduitwhere
possible.DoNOTruncablesthroughbilgesordoorways,orclosetomovingorhotobjects.
•Securecablesinplaceusingtie-wrapsorlacingtwine.Coilanyextracableandtieitoutoftheway.
•Whereacablepassesthroughanexposedbulkheadordeckhead,useasuitablewatertight
feed-through.
•DoNOTruncablesneartoenginesorfluorescentlights.
Alwaysroutedatacablesasfarawayaspossiblefrom:
•otherequipmentandcables,
•highcurrentcarryingACandDCpowerlines,
•antennae.
Strainrelief
Ensureadequatestrainreliefisprovided.Protectconnectorsfromstrainandensuretheywillnotpull
outunderextremeseaconditions.
Circuitisolation
AppropriatecircuitisolationisrequiredforinstallationsusingbothACandDCcurrent:
•Alwaysuseisolatingtransformersoraseparatepower-invertertorunPC’s,processors,displays
andothersensitiveelectronicinstrumentsordevices.
•AlwaysuseanisolatingtransformerwithWeatherFAXaudiocables.
•Alwaysuseanisolatedpowersupplywhenusinga3rdpartyaudioamplifier.
•AlwaysuseanRS232/NMEAconverterwithopticalisolationonthesignallines.
•AlwaysmakesurethatPC’sorothersensitiveelectronicdeviceshaveadedicatedpowercircuit.
Cableshielding
Ensurethatallcablesareproperlyshieldedandthatthecableshieldingisundamaged.
