Identify the position of each removed part. Organize the
parts in their respective groups (i.e., drive or driven) so
that they can be reinstalled in their original positions.
GEARSHIFT FORK-TO-GEARSHIFT FORK GROOVE
CLEARANCE
Measure the gearshift fork clearance in the groove of its respec-
tive gear using the thickness gauge.
If the clearance exceeds the specification, replace the fork, its
respective gear or both.
The clearance for each of the three gearshift forks plays an im-
portant role in the smoothness and positiveness of the shifting
action.

Standard: 0.10 – 0.30 mm (0.004 – 0.012 in)
Service Limit: 0.50 mm (0.020 in)
# Gearshift fork groove width
Standard (#1, #2 & #3): 5.00 – 5.10 mm (0.197 – 0.201 in)
# Gearshift fork thickness
Standard (#1, #2 & #3): 4.80 – 4.90 mm (0.189 – 0.193 in)
