CHECKING AND CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC CODE

(a) After the trouble is repaired, the diagnostic code
retained in memory by the Engine ECU must be
cleared by removing the
STOP (
15 A) fuse or EFI
(15 A) fuse for 10 seconds or longer, depending on
the ambient temperature (the lower the
temperature, the longer the fuse must be left out)
with the ignition switch off
.
NOTE
:
• Clearing the memory can also be done by
removing the ba
tt
ery cable from the negative
terminal, but in this case other memo
ry
systems
(radio, clock, etc
.) will also be cleare
d
• If it is necessa
ry
to work on engine components
requiring removal of the cable from the ba
tt
ery
terminal, a check must first be made to see if
any diagnostic codes have been recorded
.
(b) After
clearing the memory, pe
rf
orm a road test to
confirm that
a "normal"
code can now be read
.
If the same diagnostic code as before appears, it
indicates that the trouble has not been completely
remedied
.
