When removed, the cylinder head can be mounted on the Cylin‐
der head tensioning device - VAS 6419- for assembly work.
Removing:
Remove camshafts ⇒ page 101 .
Remove roller rocker fingers together with supporting ele‐
ments and place them on a clean surface.
Note
Ensure that roller rocker fingers and supporting elements are not
interchanged.
Unscrew spark plugs using spark plug socket and extension -
3122 B- .
Set piston of respective cylinder to “bottom dead centre”.
Set-up valve assembly device - 2036- with adapter plates -
2036/1- and adjust mounting.
Screw adapter - T40012/1- into spark plug thread, connect to
compressed air line with commercially available adapter and
apply constant pressure. At least 6 bar.
Remove valve springs using valve lever - VW 541/1 A- and
press tool VW 541/6 .
Note
Tight valve cotters can be loosened by tapping lightly on assem‐
bly lever.
Pull off valve stem seals using valve stem seal puller - 3364- .
Installing:
To prevent damage to new valve stem seals, place plastic
sleeve -A- on valve stem.
Lubricate sealing lip of valve stem oil seal -B-, place it in the
valve stem oil seal fitting tool - 3365- and push carefully onto
valve guide.
Install camshafts ⇒ page 101 .
Adjust valve timing ⇒ page 93 .
