– Remove
starter -A- ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Starter;
Removing and installing starter .
It is advisable to remove the »lower« bolt first.
– Release rotary locking mechanism of connector -1- for me‐
chatronic unit by turning in »anti-clockwise direction« and pull
off connector.
– Undo all upper engine/gearbox connecting bolts. The insert
tool 18 mm - T10179- can be used for this.
Note
Figure shows the engine and gearbox installed.
One bolt is located in the starter motor hole -arrow-.
This bolt can
be removed using multi-point bit - T10061- .
– Before unscrewing the last securing bolts, support gearbox
using workshop hoist .
– Remove lower engine/gearbox securing bolts.
– Press gearbox off from engine, guiding the gearbox
– Remove remaining engine/gearbox connecting bolts.
Connecting
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note specified
torques:

gearbox; Specified torques for gearbox .

engine on engine and gearbox
support
Note
The engine can be fastened to the engine and gearbox support -
VAS 6095- engine and gearbox support or the engine bracket -
3269- according to choice. We recommend using the engine
bracket - 3269- for work on the chain drive.
