The
CLAR
buttonand
CLAR/VFO-B
knobareusedtooffsetthereceivefrequency,thetransmitfrequency,orboth,
fromtheirsettingsontheVFO-Afrequency.FoursmallnumbersontheTFTDisplayshowthecurrentClarieroffset.
TheClariercontrolsonthe
FT-991
are designed to allow setting a preset offset (up to ±9.99 kHz) without actually re-
tuning,andthentoactivateitviatheClarier
CLAR
button.Thisfeatureisidealforfollowingadriftingstation,orfor
settingthesmallfrequencyoffsetssometimesutilizedinDX“Split”work.
HereisthetechniqueforutilizingtheClarier:
1. Press the
CLAR
button.The“
RX
”notationwillap-
pear in the TFT Display, and the programmed offset
willbeappliedtothereceivefrequency.
2. Rotationofthe
CLAR/VFO-B
knobwillallowyou
tomodifyyourinitialoffsetonthey.Offsetsofup
to±9.99kHzmaybesetusingtheClarier.

The “
RX
”notationwilldisappearfromthedisplay.
Advice:
Turning the Clarifier off merely cancels the applica-
tion of the programmed offset from the receive and/or
thetransmitfrequencies.TocleartheClarifier offset,
andresetitto“zero,”pressandholdthe
CLAR
button.
The programmed offset is displayed in the small multi-
channelwindowofthefrequencydisplay.
