Chapter 6 Terminal Connections
Serial Connections
The RS-232 serial port is multi-purpose and supports these connections:
DH-485 communication through a serial connection
DF1 full-duplex communication with controllers by using direct
connections or modem connections
Third-party point-to-point communication
Application transfers and printing
The serial port is a 9-pin, male, RS-232 connector. Ta ble 6 6
shows the pinout
descriptions and how these pins map to the serial ports on the controllers.
The maximum cable length for serial communication is 15.24 m (50 ft).

Insert plastic tie wrap in
the hole and use as strain
relief for all attached cables.

applied to the terminal, or the serial device on the other end of the cable. An
electrical arc could cause an explosion in hazardous location installations. Be
sure that power is removed or the area is nonhazardous before proceeding.
