IDENTIFICATION DATA
It is a good rule to write down the frame
and engine numbers in the space provided
in this manual.
You may be asked to provide the frame
number when purchasing spare parts.
NOTE Altering the vehicle identification
numbers is a legal offence. Altering the
frame number invalidates the guarantee.
FRAME NUMBER
The frame number (1) is stamped on the
right side of the steering tube.
Frame no. _______________________
ENGINE NUMBER
The engine number (2) is stamped on the
rear part of the engine, near the front
sprocket.
Engine no. ________________________
JOINTS WITH CLICK CLAMPS AND
WITH SCREW CLAMPS
CAUTION
Remove ONLY the clamps indicated in
the maintenance procedures.
This text is not to be intended as an
authorization to arbitrarily remove the
clamps present on the vehicle.
WARNING
Before removing a clamp, make sure
removal will not lead to fluid leakage. If
so, take suitable measures to prevent
leakage and protect the components
nearby.
CLICK CLAMPS
Click clamps are removed using common
pliers, whereas installation requires a
special tool (see below).
Before removing a clamp, prepare the
material necessary for correct reassembly.
NOTE Make sure to have the
appropriate special tool J ready at hand :
clamp installation pliers, see page 33
(SPECIAL TOOLS J).
CAUTION
On refitting, replace the click clamp that
has been removed with a new one of the
same size, available from
aprilia
Official dealer. Click clamps become
unserviceable during removal. Do not
attempt to refit them.
Do not replace a click clamp you have
removed with a screw clamp or with
other types of clamps.
CAUTION
Proceed with care to avoid damage to
joint components.
Apply the pliers to the head of the click
clamp, forcing until release.
SCREW CLAMPS
Screw clamps are removed and installed
using a common screwdriver.
CAUTION
Check the conditions of the clamp and
if necessary replace it with a new one of
the same type and size, available from
aprilia Official dealer.
When fastening the clamp, make sure
that the joint is sufficiently stable.
CHECKING AND TOPPING UP
ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Read page 46 (ENGINE OIL) and page
61 (MAINTENANCE) carefully.
NOTE Halve maintenance intervals if
the vehicle is used in rainy or dusty
conditions, on rough roads or for racing.
