Examination Modes
The Examination Modes put some limits on calculator functions, which allows it to be used
when taking an exam or test. Your calculator has four different Examination Modes.
• Selecting any one of the Examination Modes will cause the modes and functions below to
become disabled.
eActivity mode; Memory mode; E-CON4 mode; Python mode (fx-CG50/fx-CG50 AU);
Program mode; program commands: ^ (output command), : (multi-statement command),
_ (carriage return); data transfer; add-in language; storage memory access; user name
editing; OS Update; Catalog QR Code function
• In addition to the above, selecting a specific Examination Mode also disables functions that
are specific to that mode as described below.

The “Input/Output” setting of the setup screen (page 1-35) is automatically becomes “M/M”
(Mth/Mix). The only way “M/M” (Mth/Mix) differs from “Math” is that it outputs results of
calculations including ' or π in decimal format. While in the Examination Mode for NL,
“Math” cannot be selected for the “Input/Output” setting. Exiting the Examination Mode
causes the “Input/Output” setting to return to the setting it was at when you entered the
Examination Mode. The “M/M” (Mth/Mix) setting is disabled.

The inequality graph function of the calculator’s Graph mode and the inequality graph
command of the Run-Matrix mode are disabled.
• The calculator will backup user data (main memory) when you enter an Examination Mode.
Backed up data will be restored when you exit the Examination Mode. Data you created
while in an Examination Mode is deleted when you exit the mode.
Important!
• Enter an Examination Mode only when actually taking an exam or test.
• Only the Examination Mode for IB is allowed when taking an International Baccalaureate
®
(IB) exam.
• Replacing batteries with a set of fresh ones is recommended before using an Examination
Mode.
• In an Examination Mode, the backlight brightness level will change to 1 automatically if
you do not perform any operation on the calculator for about 30 seconds. Note that in an
Examination Mode the backlight will not turn off, so battery power runs down faster. Exit the
Examination Mode as soon as possible after you get through using it.
