5 POST INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION AND CHECKOUT
PROCEDURE
Perhaps the most important factor in the GTX 330 transponder configuration and checkout is the Mode S
address entry and Flight ID. Refer to
Section 5.2.13.2 for Mode S address entry pages.
Be sure to check all aircraft control movements before flight is attempted to insure
that the wiring harness does not touch any moving part.
Verify proper operation of the transponder during a flight test under VFR conditions. If the unit detects an
internal failure mode the word FAIL is displayed on the screen.
Make sure an approved device is installed for reporting altitude in accordance with 14 CFR 91.217. Refer
to
Section 4.4.4 for altimeter data selection priority.
5.1 Operation
The coverage you can expect from the GTX 330 is limited to line of sight. Low altitude or
antenna shielding by the aircraft itself may result in reduced range. Range can be
improved by climbing to a higher altitude. It may be possible to minimize antenna
shielding by locating the antenna where dead spots are only noticed during abnormal
flight attitudes.

The GTX 330 should be turned off before starting aircraft engine(s).
