6. PKA/VKA/VLA types:
Insert the Woodruff key into the slot closest to the end of
the crankshaft. Be sure the blade holder Woodruff key is
properly installed. Failure to do so will result in blade
holder bolt failure that can cause the blade holder to come
off.
Install the blade holder assembly onto the crankshaft by
aligning the slot in the blade holder with the Woodruff key
in the crankshaft, and then tighten the 3/8-24 x 1 Special
bolt to the specified torque. Wear a pair of thick leather
gloves and hold the blades with your hand while tightening
the bolt.
TORQUE: 54 N•m (40 ft-lb)
VYA type:
Install the blades and tighten them to the specified torque.
Wear a pair of thick leather gloves and hold the blades
with your hand while tightening the bolts. Be sure the
concave side of the special washers face the lower blade.
TORQUE: 54 N•m (40 ft-lb)
7. Install the Clip Director knob.
a. Insert the lever spring into the spring pocket in the
green lower shutter lock and then place the gray upper
shutter lock over the other end of the spring so the
spring rests around the upper spring holder.
b. Hold the Clip Director knob together as an assembly so
that the spring does not fall out of the spring pockets.
c. Slide the knob onto the lever until a ‘click’ is heard and
the knob is retained.
8. Perform a final operation check by moving the Clip
Director to the MULCH and BAG positions several times
and ensure the system rotates smoothly.
9. Reconnect the spark plug cap (P. 3 -8
).
