12. OPERATION
12.2.2 STARTING IN COLD WEATHER
WARNING
‡ Start the engine only after sitting down in the operator’s seat.
‡ Do not attempt to start the engine by short-circuiting the engine
starting circuit. Such an act may cause serious bodily injury or fire.
‡ Check that there are no persons or obstacles in the surround-
ing area, then sound the horn and start the engine.
‡ Never use starting aid fluids as they may cause explosions.
‡ Exhaust gas is toxic. When starting the engine in confined
spaces, be particularly careful to ensure good ventilation.
NOTICE
Do not keep the starting motor rotating continuously for more
than 20 seconds.
If the engine will not start, wait for at least 2 minutes before
trying to start the engine again.
1. Turn the key in starting switch 1 to the ON position. Preheating
will automatically start and preheating pilot lamp 2 will light up.
The table shown below gives a guide to preheating times.
The preheating time in cold areas changes according to the
water temperature when starting the engine.
2. Depress accelerator pedal 3 lightly.
3. Check that preheat pilot lamp 2 is out, then turn the key of
starting switch 1 to the START position to start the engine.
4. When engine is started, release the key of starting switch 1 and
the key will return automatically to ON.

0°C to –10°C 20 sec.
–10°C to –20°C 30 sec.
