6.11Initialsetupprocedures
Onceyourdisplayhasbeeninstalledand
commissioned,Raymarinerecommendsthatyou
completetheStartupwizardandperformsome
additionalprocedures.
Startupwizard
Whenyoupower-upthedisplayforthersttimeor
afterasystemresetaStartupWizardisdisplayed.
Thewizardguidesyouthroughthefollowingbasic
congurationsettings:
1.Language
2.Boattype
3.CongureUnits(Unitsofmeasure)
4.BoatDetails
Note:Thesesettingscanalsobesetatanytime
usingthemenusaccessiblefromHomescreen
>Customize.
Additionalsettings
InadditiontothesettingscoveredbytheWizard,
itisalsorecommendedthatthefollowinginitialset
uptasksarecompleted:
Setyourdateandtimepreferences.
Designatethedatamaster.
SelecttheGPSdatasource.
Familiarizeyourselfwiththeproductusing
SimulatorMode.
Warning:MinimumSafeDepth,
BeamandHeight
Dependingoncartographyvendor,the
minimumsafesettingsareusedduring
automaticroutegeneration,theyareused
torestrictcreatedroutesfromentering
waterthatisnotsuitableforthevessel.
Dataistakenfromcompatiblecartography.
Minimumsafesettingsareuserdened
calculations.Asbothofthesefactors
areoutsideofRaymarine’scontrol;
Raymarinewillnotbeheldliablefor
anydamage,physicalorotherwise,
resultingfromtheuseoftheautomatic
routegenerationfeatureortheMinimum
SafeDepth,MinimumSafeBeamor
MinimumSafeHeightsettings.
Minimumsafevesseldepth
AspartoftheInitialstartupwizardtheMinimum
SafeDepthvaluecanbeset.
MinimumSafeDepthcanbeestablishedbyadding
together:
MaximumVesselDraft(i.e.thedistancefromthe
waterlinetothelowestpointofavessel’skeel.)
SafetyMargin(anadequateclearancebelowthe
keeltoallowfordraftvariationandchangesin
waterorbottomconditions.)
i.e.:MinimumSafeDepth=MaximumVesselDraft
+SafetyMargin.

WatertypeAvessel’sdraftwillincreaseby
approximately2%to3%infreshwatercompared
toseawater.
Someofthefactorsthatshouldbetakenintoaccount
whencalculatingaSafetyMarginare:
VesselmaneuveringcharacteristicsA
vessel’sdraftincreasesduetosquat,trim,roll,
pitchandheave.
ChartaccuracyTheelectronicchartdepth
maynotbeaccurateorthetruedepthmayhave
changedsincethelastsurvey.
WeatherconditionsHighairpressure,and
prevailingwindstrengthanddirectioncanaffect
waveheight.
Minimumsafebeam
AspartoftheInitialstartupwizardtheMinimum
SafeBeamvaluecanbeset.Minimumsafebeamis
requiredwhenusingJeppesen
