PTO Clutch Tests

G. Test Electric PTO Clutch
TEST PTO CLUTCH RESISTANCE
1. Set VOM to Ohms.
2. Unplug the PTO clutch connector.
3. Probe PTO clutch connector terminals.
The VOM should read approximately 2-3 Ohms. If the
clutch has more resistance than 3 Ohms, replace the
field assembly or clutch assembly.
TEST ELECTRIC PTO CLUTCH FOR SHORT CIRCUITS
1. Set VOM to Ohms.
2. Probe the clutch body with the negative test lead.
3. Probe one of the connector terminals with the posi-
tive lead. The VOM Should show no continuity.
4. Probe the other connector terminal with the positive
lead. Again, the VOM should show no continuity.
If the VOM shows continuity to the clutch body from
either terminal, the clutch has an internal short and
should be replaced.
TEST ELECTRIC PTO CLUTCH ENGAGING
1. Connect the PTO clutch terminals to a 12 VDC power
supply.
An audible “click” should be heard as the clutch
engages. If the clutch does not engage, replace the field
assembly or clutch assembly.
Reconnect the clutch wire connector after testing.
