ENGINE OIL
In 4-stroke engines is used to lubricate
driving parts, main bearings and cylinder-
piston unit.
WARNING
Low oil level can damage the engine.
In all 4-stroke engines, the loss of the oil
features and oil consumption can be
considered a normal condition.
Consumption especially depends on use
conditions (e.g. oil consumption increases
when always riding "full throttle").
According to the total quantity of engine oil
and average consumption measured
through standard procedures, it is possible
to determine the scheduled change
interval.
CAUTION
In order to prevent any trouble, it is
recommended to check oil level each
time the vehicle is used.
CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Check engine oil level every 2000 km
(1250 mi).
u Place the vehicle on the centre stand,
see page 38 (POSITIONING THE
VEHICLE ON CENTRE STAND).
CAUTION
Always check engine oil level with cold
engine each time you are going to drive
the veichle.
u Unscrew and extract the plug/dipstick
(1).
u Clean the part in contact with the oil with
a clean cloth.
u Tighten the plug/dipstick (1) completely,
screwing it into the filling hole (2).
u Withdraw the plug/dipstick (1) again and
read the oil level on the dipstick itself.
u The level is correct if it matches with the
dipstick reference mark corresponding to
maximum level.
u If necessary, provide for topping up.
MAX level reference corresponds to about
850cc of engine oil.
If oil check is performed after having driven
the vehicle, i.e. with warm engine, the level
will be lower; for a correct reading, you
should allow at least 10 minutes after
having stopped the engine.
TOPPING UP ENGINE OIL
Top up engine oil level every 2000 km
(1250 mi).
CAUTION
Any top-ups should be made after
having checked oil level and MAX. level
shall never be exceeded.
Have the engine oil checked and topped
up every 2000 km (1250 mi) by an aprilia
Authorised Dealer.
