u Make sure that the brake fluid contained
in the reservoir exceeds the "MIN" mark
stamped on the glass gauge.
If the fluid is below the "MIN" mark:
CAUTION
Brake fluid level decreases as the brake
pads wear down.
u Check the brake pads for wear, see
page 50 (CHECKING THE BRAKE
PADS FOR WEAR).
If the pads and/or the disc do not need
replacing:
u Contact an aprilia Authorised Dealer
that will top up the fluid.
CAUTION
Check the brake for proper operation.
When the brake lever has exceeding
travel or if you notice a loss of braking,
contact an aprilia Authorised Dealer.
The braking system may need bleeding.
REAR DRUM BRAKE
WARNING
The brakes are critical to your safety
and must always be kept in sleek
running order. Check the brakes before
each ride.
If in doubt about the proper operation of
braking system or if you are not able to
perform routine checks, do not hesitate
to contact an aprilia Authorised Dealer.
ADJUSTING THE BRAKE
u Measure lever stroke distance before
braking action is started. The lever idle
stroke measured at lever end shall be
about 10 mm.
To adjust the slack, proceed as follows:
u Turn adjuster (1).
u Operate the brake repeatedly and verify
that the wheel is rotating freely once the
brake has been released.
u Check the brake for proper operation.
CAUTION
If adjuster (1) is completely screwed, it
means that brake shoes are worn out; in
this case see page 50 (VERIFYING
BRAKE SHOES WEAR).
