use and maintenance Scarabeo 50 2T - Scarabeo 50 4T - Scarabeo 100 4T
LONG PERIODS OF INACTIVITY
When the vehicle is to remain unused for
long periods, some precautions are
necessary to avoid damage.
Do not postpone necessary repairs or you
could forget them when you take the
vehicle out of storage; a general check up
is also recommended.
Proceed as follows:
u Empty the fuel tank and the carburettor,
see page 69 (DRAINING THE FUEL
TANK).
u Remove the spark plug, page 57
(SPARK PLUG) and pour a teaspoon of
two-stroke engine oil (5 - 10 cm³) into the
cylinder.
NOTE Put a clean cloth on the cylinder,
near the spark plug seat, in order to protect
it from oil sprays.
u Turn the ignition switch to position “”
and press the engine start push-button
“” for a few seconds, to distribute the
oil evenly on the cylinder surfaces.
u Remove the cloth.
u Refit the spark plug.
u Remove the battery, see page 60
(REMOVING THE BATTERY).
u Wash and dry the vehicle, see page 70
(CLEANING).
u Polish painted surfaces with wax.
u Inflate the tyres, see page 28 (TYRES).
u By means of a suitable support, position
the vehicle so that both tyres are raised
from the ground.
u Store the vehicle in an unheated, dry
place, away from sunlight, where
temperature is reasonably steady.
u Wrap and tie a plastic bag around the
exhaust pipe opening to keep moisture
out.
u Cover the vehicle avoiding plastic or
waterproof covers.
AFTER STORAGE
u Remove the cover and clean the vehicle,
see page 70 (CLEANING).
u Check battery charge, see page 61
(CHARGING THE BATTERY) and fit it,
see page 61 (INSTALLING THE
BATTERY).
u Check carburettor drain screw for
complete tightening (index of drainage
closing), see page 69 (DRAINING THE
FUEL TANK).
u Fill the fuel tank, see page 21 (FUEL).
u Perform the recommended pre-ride
checks, see page 31 (PRE-RIDE
CHECKS CHART).
WARNING
Have a test ride at moderate speed in a
low-traffic area.
