VALVE SELECTOR
The VALVE SELECTOR operates the valves when the COBE 2991 is in Tube
Load mode or during processing in the Manual mode (
Table 3-1).
See “TUBE LOAD” on page 3-5 for more information about the Tube Load mode.

START SPIN
When you press the START SPIN button, the centrifuge starts spinning and the
START SPIN light illuminates. The START SPIN button is used to start a
processing procedure in Automatic mode or to begin the Start/Spin operation in
Manual mode. The COBE 2991 must be in Ready status for the START SPIN
button to be active.
In Automatic mode, the START SPIN light illuminates when the COBE 2991
advances to the Start/Spin operation from the previous Agitate/Wash-In operation.
In both Automatic and Manual modes, pressing the START SPIN button during
an Agitate/Wash-In operation advances the COBE 2991 to the Start/Spin
operation after the hydraulic pump has returned to its home (starting) position.
SUPER OUT
When you press the SUPER OUT button, the COBE 2991 advances from the
Start/Spin operation to the Supernatant-Out operation and the SUPER OUT light
illuminates. During the Supernatant-Out operation, the centrifuge remains
spinning, the selected valve (collect or SOV) opens, and the hydraulic pump moves
upward, pushing hydraulic fluid underneath the flexible diaphragm. This action
expresses supernatant or cells through either the SOV or collect valve into the waste
collection bag or an alternate collection bag. See
“COLLECT/SOV (COBE 2991s
With Collect Valve Only)” on page 3-6. The SUPER OUT button is only active
during a Start/Spin operation.
In Automatic mode, the SUPER OUT light illuminates when the COBE 2991
advances to the Supernatant-Out operation from the Start/Spin operation.
In both Automatic and Manual modes, pressing the SUPER OUT button during a
Start/Spin operation advances the COBE 2991 to the Supernatant-Out operation.
