7.1 GDL 8X Install Tool
The GDL 8X Install Tool provides:
• Diag
nostics – reports device, system, and faults information
• Configuration – allows selection of installation options
• System Update – allows upload of software and firmware to the GDL 82 unit
GDL 8X Install Tool Requirements:
1. To install the GDL 8x Install Tool, administrative rights may be required.
2.
Laptop or PC to run GDL 8X Install Tool. The laptop or PC requirements:
Operating system Windows 7 or later
Processor speed 850 MHz
Hard drive free memory 500 MB
RAM memory 256 MB
Winzip
®
(or equivalent application) to extract downloaded file
3. USB-A to USB-B adapter cable to interface between a computer USB-A receptacle and the GDL 82 USB-B
receptacle installed in the wiring harness. The cable length should not exceed 16 ft.

GDL 8X Install Tool Instructions
1. Download the GDL 8X Install Tool from the Dealer Resource Center and flyGarmin.com and install.
2. Connect the USB-A plug on the adapter cable to the computer.
3. With the GDL 82 powered down, connect the USB-B plug on the adapter cable to unit.
4. Apply power to unit.
5. Start the GDL 8X Install Tool on the computer.
6. Select GDL 82.
