Chapter 5. IBM TotalStorage Management Console
The IBM TotalStorage Management Console is the focal point for configuration,
copy services management, and maintenance activities.
The Management Console is a dedicated workstation that is physically located
(installed) inside your DS8100 and DS8300 and can automatically monitor the state
of your system, notifying you and IBM when service is required. The Management
Console can also be connected to your network to enable centralized management
of your system using the IBM TotalStorage DS Command-Line Interface or the
storage management software that uses the IBM TotalStorage DS Open API.
To provide continuous availability of customer access to the management console
functions, having a second management console is recommended. This second
management console can be provided in two ways:
v External (outside the 2107) - This console is generally installed in the
customer-provided rack. It uses the same hardware as the internal management
console.
v Internal (a second management console that resides within a second 2107) -
This console can be cabled together with the primary internal management
console of the first 2107.’
Logging onto the Management Console
When logging onto the Management Console, the customer initially uses the
management console predefined user ID (customer) and password (cust0mer).
After logging in the first time, the customer can choose to change the password.
The following log on process provides access to the WebSM interface. From this
interface you can change your password or access the DS Storage Manager.
Note: CEs use a different ID and password when using the Management Console.
1. Slide the Management Console keyboard/display drawer out from the machine
and raise the panel display.
2. Turn on the console. The login window is displayed, prompting you to provide
your user ID and password. The WebSM interface window is displayed.
3. Choose what you want to do; access the DS Storage Manager or change your
password.
Note: You cannot use the predefined password after you change it. If you
forget your password, you must contact your IBM service representative
to have the password reset.
Logging off the Management Console
The management console must always be left operational. However, you might
consider the following actions when you leave the management console unattended
or when you must logoff your management console session.
1. In the main menu, click Console —> Exit. At this point, you can choose to save
the state of the console for the next session by clicking the box next to the
option.
2. Click Exit Now.
