Copy Services functions across a 2105 and 2107
Copy Services functions that are performed using either the DS Storage Manager
or DS CLI are designed to interact with both the DS8000 (2107) and the IBM
TotalStorage 2105 Enterprise Storage Servers (ESS) Models 800 and ESS 750.
The 2107 is the next generation of the Enterprise Storage Server (ESS). Most Copy
Services functions that are available on the 2105 are also available in the 2107 and
in open systems and zSeries environments.
On the 2107, a storage unit partitioning consists of two logical partitions (LPARs),
one LPAR on each processor complex and a set of allocated resources such as
processors, memory, I/O adapters, and storage devices in one physical machine.
Each LPAR appears to the software running within it as an independent hardware
environment. For this reason, the mirroring solutions, which are compatible between
the 2105 and the 2170 series, allow you to set up a disaster recovery solution with
the 2107 at your local (or primary) site and with the 2105 at your secondary (or
recovery) site, where the same performance is not required.
To perform Copy Services functions between machine types 2105 and 2107, you
must configure a Copy Services domain on the DS Storage Manager or DS CLI. To
connect to the 2105 Copy Services domain on the ESS, all interfaces that you use
require an authenticated login procedure to access Copy Services functions across
the storage complex. The authentication is performed by using a user name and
password that was created with the ESS Specialist. Therefore, the existing user
name and password that was created with the ESS Specialist for the 2105 Copy
Services domain for which you will be working must match the user name and
password on the management console that is connected to the 2107. Otherwise,
you must add them using either the DS Storage Manager or DS CLI as part of the
procedure for adding a 2105 Copy Services domain to the storage complex.
Consider the following guidelines:
v To manage Copy Services across the 2105 and 2107, you must install licensed
internal code version 2.4.2 or later on the 2105.
v The 2107 support remote mirror and copy (formerly PPRC) operations with an
ESCON link. Therefore, if you want to configure a remote mirror and copy
relationship between the 2107 and 2105, you must use a FCP link.
Adding a Copy Services 2105 domain to a storage complex
using a DS Storage Manager
This process describes the information that you need to set up a Copy Services
2105 domain using the DS Storage Manager.
Copy Services functions are available through the DS Storage Manager that is
installed on a management console. The management console is the focal point for
configuration and Copy Services functions.
Configuring a Copy Services domain on the DS Storage Manager allows you to
perform Copy Services functions between machine type 2105 and machine type
2107. The mirroring solutions are compatible between the 2105 (ESS Models 750
and 800) and 2107 .
For this example, assume that you want to configure a 2105 Copy Services domain
using the DS Storage Manager. The 2107 must authenticate with the 2105 before
you can perform Copy Services functions. Because of the single login process used
by the 2107 to access the 2105, the user names and passwords must be the same
