4. Remove steering cover (1).

5. Remove muffler clamp and hardware (5) from
exhaust pipe (6).
6. Remove four nuts (2), four screws (3), and eight flat
washers (4).
7. Remove muffler (7) from exhaust manifold (8).
8. Inspect the exhaust system for cracks, holes, and
distortion. Replace exhaust gaskets and exhaust
clamps.
Installation Notes
• Install muffler in the reverse order of removal.
• Install new gaskets during installation.
• Tighten nuts (2) to 7.2–8.3 lb-ft (9.8–11.3 N·m).
Alternator (Diesel)
Removal and Installation
See Figures 3-17 and 3-18.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Raise the hood.

NOTE
Label all wires before disconnecting to ensure correct
installation.
3. Remove nut (2), washer (3), and wire connector (4)
from the engine temperature switch (1).
NOTE
Move engine temperature switch wire harness aside to
provide clearance for alternator removal.
