Passwordsandsleep(standby)mode
Ifyouhavesetpasswordsandyouputyourcomputerintosleep(standby)modebypressingFn+F4,the
procedureforresumingoperationisasfollows:
•Youarenotpromptedtotypethepasswordwhenresumingoperation.
•Ifanyharddiskorthesolidstatedrivehasaharddiskpassword,itisunlockedautomaticallywhen
youresumeoperation.
UsingPassphrase
WhenthePassphrasefunctionisenabled,youcansetapower-onpassword,harddiskpasswords,anda
supervisorpassword,eachcontainingupto64characters.
EnablingthePassphrasefunctionimprovestheprotectionoftheharddiskpasswordandthusimproves
thesecurityofyourcomputer.
ThePassphrasefunctionisenabledbydefault.
FormoreinformationaboutusingthePassphrasefunctionseethefollowingsections.
TipsonusingthePassphrasefunction
IfthePassphrasefunctionisenabledonyourcomputer,andyousettheharddiskpassword,andthen
removetheharddiskdrivefromyourcomputerandinstallitononeofthecomputerslistedabove,that
computerwillnotaccepttheharddiskpassword.
IfthePassphrasefunctionisenabledonyourcomputer,andyousettheharddiskpassword,andthen
removetheharddiskdrivefromyourcomputerandinstallitonacomputerthatisnotoneofthemodels
listedabove,buthasthePassphrasefunctiondisabled,youwillnotbeabletochangetheharddisk
passwordonthatcomputer.Ifyouneedtochangetheharddiskpassword,dothefollowing.
1.Removetheharddiskdrive.
2.Removethepower-onandsupervisorpasswordsiftheyhavebeensetonthatcomputer.
3.EnablingthePassphrasefunction.
4.Reinstalltheharddiskdrive.Nowyoucanchangetheharddiskpassword.
IfthePassphrasefunctionisdisabledonyourcomputer,andyousettheharddiskpassword,andthen
removetheharddiskdrivefromyourcomputerandinstallitonacomputerthatisnotoneofthemodels
listedabove,buthasthePassphrasefunctionenabled,youwillnotbeabletochangetheharddisk
passwordonthatcomputer.Ifyouneedtochangetheharddiskpassword,dothefollowing.
1.Removetheharddiskdrive.
2.Removethepower-onandsupervisorpasswordsiftheyhavebeensetonthatcomputer.
3.DisablethePassphrasefunction.
4.Reinstalltheharddiskdrive.Nowyoucanchangetheharddiskpassword.
