Theconstructionofyourvesselcanhaveanimpactonperformance.Forexample,theproximityof
heavystructuressuchasastructuralbulkhead,ortheinterioroflargervesselsmayresultinareduced
signal.Theconstructionmaterialscanalsohaveanimpact.Inparticular,steel,aluminiumorcarbon
surfacescanimpactperformance.Beforelocatingequipmentwithaninternalantennabelowdecks,
oronasteel,aluminiumorcarbonconstructionvesselorsurface,seekprofessionalassistance.
Prevailingconditions
Theweatherandlocationofthevesselcanaffectperformance.Typicallycalmclearconditions
provideamoreaccuratepositionfix.Vesselsatextremenortherlyorsoutherlylatitudesmayalso
receiveaweakersignal.Anantennamountedbelowdeckswillbemoresusceptibletoperformance
issuesrelatedtotheprevailingconditions.
ExternalGNSS(GPS)antennalocationrequirements
Yourproductincludesabuilt-inGNSS(GPS)receiverandantenna.Itisalsopossibletoconnectand
useanexternalGNSS(GPS)antennasuchastheGA150instead.
Whenusinganexternalantenna,ensureyoufollowthelocationrequirementsspecifiedinyour
externalantenna’sinstallationinstructions.
Note:
Whenusingane xternalantennayoumustselecttheinternalantennainorderforittobeused
insteadoftheexternalantenna.SeetheSwitchingbetweeninternalandexternalantenna
procedure.
AntennamountingandEMEe xposure
EnsurethatyourVHFantennaisconnectedtotheradiobeforetransmission.
Raymarine®declaresaMaximumPermissibleExposure(MPE)radiusof1.8meters(5.9ft.)forthis
system,assuming25wattsoutputtoanomnidirectionalantennaof3dBigainorless.
Forwatercraftwithsuitablestructures,theantennabasemustbeatleast3.8meters(12.5ft)above
themaindecktomeettheMPEforpersonsupto2metres(6.6ft)tall.Forwatercraftwithoutsuch
structures,theantennamustbemountedsothatitsbaseisaminimumof1.8meters(5.9ft.)vertically
fromheadsofallpersons.
Theantennamustbeisolatedfromthevessel’smetalworkusinganinsulated(e.g.plastic)mounting
bracket.
Multipleantennainstallations
Importantadditionalconsiderationswheninstallingmultipleantennas.
TopreventpotentialchannelinterferencewheninstallingtwoormoreVHFradiosonthesame
vessel,ensurethattheantennasarelocatedatleast2.4m(8ft.)awayfromeachother.
Loudhailerlocationrequirements
Toavoidaudiofeedback,ensurethattheloudhailerisatleast3m(9.8ft)awayfromtheVHFbase
unitandanyhandsetorfistmicatalltimes.Whentalking,ensurethatthehandsetorfistmicis
pointingintheoppositedirectiontotheloudhailer.
6.2EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarine®equipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriateElectromagneticCompatibility
(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnotcompromised.
Note:
Inareasofe xtremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybenoticed.Wherethisoccurs
theproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbeseparatedbyagreaterdistance.
