PROPERTIES OF YOUR DESIGN ESPRESSO PRO
Your new »DESIGN ESPRESSO PRO« Machine is designed for brewing coffee, tex-
turing and heating milk, giving off hot water for any type of water-based hot drinks,
for diluting your coffee, and for pre-heating cups and the portafilter.
Typically the espresso grind is somewhat finer than that designated for other types
of coffee brewers. Fill the coffee powder in the designated, double-walled stainless
steel filter basket, distribute it evenly and tamper it. Thereafter you install the filter bas-
ket at the group head of the machine via a pressure-tight portafilter. The 1000 W
Thermoblock heating system will bring the water to the required brewing temperature.
The 15 bar Ulka pump forces the water through the coffee powder on high pressure.
Already after some seconds, the espresso will drip from the portafilter spouts. You
control the desired amount of espresso according to your likings, via the brewing
time. If you prefer espresso pads, the special E.S.E. pad system (Easy Serving Espres-
so) is provided. Using this feature, you simply place one pad into the filter basket
and start the extraction.
For preparing usual, “normal” coffee, you simply dilute espresso, conveniently using
the hot water function of the »DESIGN ESPRESSO PRO«.
Even coffee specialities can be prepared without effort: milk froth, e.g. for cappuc-
cino and latté macchiato is available via the steam function—always freshly heated
and textured. Hot water and steam are directed into the cup or provided milk jug via
the fully swivel-mounted hot water / steam wand.
Note:
You may use the hot water function even for preparing small amounts (1-2 cups) of
other hot drinks (e.g. tea, cacao mixtures).
TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
Preparing top-quality coffee is a result of the perfect balance of flavours and texture,
achieving the optimum combination of sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. You will
learn this art quite easily using your new espresso machine. This chapter will give
you good advice.
The flavour of your coffee will depend on many factors: origin and type of your
coffee beans, degree of roast, freshness, and grind size. Give it a try by varying
these factors one by one and checking the result against your own preferences. If
the coffee flows too fast (less than 9 seconds until it starts dripping), then a large
part of the flavouring substances remains in the coffee powder and the coffee is
watery, bland and with only poor crema. The resulting espresso will be under
extracted. In this case, the grind size is too coarse.
