DESCALING THE APPLIANCE
During regular use of the appliance, lime deposits can build up in the water tank
and in the water system of the appliance, and restrain water flow. Calcification will
increases the energy consumption and reduce the quality of the coffee.
To prevent severe calcification, we recommend to descale the machine regularly,
according to the degree of hardness of your water and the frequency of usage. Here-
by, the usage of a gentle descaler, that does not affect any metal parts or silicone
seals, is important.
IMPORTANT: For decalcifying, please use the GASTROBACK PREMIUM DE-
SCALER (Art. No.: 98175) exclusively. This Descaler contains special additives
and is matched to the components used in our machines. Using the GASTROBACK
PREMIUM DESCALER a mixture of 50 ml descaler and max. 750 ml of water is
recommended.
Due to variations in water hardness and usage of the machine, we can not make
any precise specifications on the frequency of descaling. The following table is a
non-binding recommendation and is for guidance only.

CAUTION: Do not operate the appliance with the water tank completely emp-
ty or removed. Ensure to keep an eye on the filling level of the water tank during
descaling. Always switch OFF the appliance, before removing the water tank. Do
not operate the appliance without the drip tray installed correctly.
1. Turn the selection dial to the vertical position, press the POWER button to switch
OFF and unplug the appliance.
2. Remove the portafilter from the group head and the stainless steel tube from the
hot water / steam wand. Empty the water tank. Then pour the descaler solution
(50 ml Gastroback Premium descaler + 50 ml water) into the water tank and re-
install the water tank at the rear of the appliance.
3. Connect the appliance to the power supply and press the POWER button to
switch ON the appliance. Place an empty heat-resistant jug or suitable bowl
under the group head and hot water / steam wand. Wait until the POWER but-
ton is illuminated continuously.
