Option 1:
Option 1: Connect to spare port, connec tion to host HBA suppor ted and HBA has a spare
internal SAS port. Back panel has spare PCI slot.
Do not modif y the existing SAS conguration. Use the split cable supplied with the tape
drivetoconnecttothespareSASport.ThecableandSASconnectortothetapedriveare
threaded through a PCI slot on the server’s back panel. See Option 1: Connect cable to
spareportonhostSAScontrollerorhostHBA”onpage39.
This option is also appropriate if you purchase an additional HBA and it has only internal
connectors. The split cable is connected to the SAS connector on the new HBA. Care must
be taken to ensure you have sufcient PCI slots to accommodate the HBA and cabling.
Option 2:
Replace existing cable, connection to host HBA supported and HBA does not have a spare
internal SAS port. Back panel has spare PCI slot.
UsethesplitcablesuppliedwiththetapedrivetoreplacetheexistingSAScable. The
tape drive is connected to an internal SAS port on the host SAS controller. The cable
andSASconnectortothetapedrivearethreadedthroughaPCIslotontheserversback
panel. See Option 2: Connect cable to port on host SAS controller and replace existing
SAS cable”onpage42.
Cautionisadvisedforthiscablingoptionbecauseyoumaylosetheuseofoneofyour
hard disk bays. If this is the case and the hard disk drive bay is required use for now or
inthefuture,youmustinstallanewHBA.WerecommendanHBAwithanexternalSAS
connector (option 3), see Installing an external Ultrium tape drive by connecting to an
external SAS port”onpage49.
