The split cable supplied with the tape drive can only be used to connect to an internal
port on your SAS server. If your HBA has an external SAS connector, please refer to
“Installing an external Ultrium tape drive by connecting to an external SAS port” on page 49.
If you are installing an internal Ultrium tape drive, please refer to
“Installing an internal Ultrium tape drive ”onpage21.

This chapt
er describes the two configurations that co nnect to an internal port on the host controller or new
HBA. Thes
econfigurations are useful if the server do es not have a spare, internal full-height bay for the
tape drive. However, they require you to remove the server cover.

drive bays, Option 2. This requires some recabling inside the server, and also disconnects
one of the hard disk drive bays. This configuration is suitable for some HP ProLiant servers
only and, if it does disconnect a hard disk drive bay, you must be sure that the hard

You cannot use the supplied SAS cable to connect to a n external SAS port. If you wish to connect
to an external SAS por t, you must purchase and install an additional HBA that s uppor ts external
conne
ction and an additional cable. If your server already has an active external port and you
wish to connect to it, you must purchase an additional cable. For d etails of supported cables refer
