13.5 Checking the rear hub damping rubber pieces
Info
The engine power is transmitted from the rear sprocket to the rear wheel via the 6 damping rubber pieces.
They eventually wear out during operation. If the damping rubber pieces are not changed in time, the rear
sprocket carrier and the rear hub will be damaged.
Preparatory work
– Raise the motorcycle with the rear lifting gear. ( p. 46)
– Remove the rear wheel. ( p. 71)

» If the bearing is damaged or worn:
– Change the bearing of the rear sprocket carrier.

Check damping rubber pieces

and wear.
» If the damping rubber pieces of the rear hub are damaged
or worn:
– Change all the damping rubber pieces of the rear hub.

– Lay the rear wheel on a workbench with the rear sprocket fac-
ing upwards and insert the wheel spindle in the hub.

To check play

, hold the rear wheel tight and try to turn the
rear sprocket with your hand.

Measure the play on the outside of the rear sprocket.

If clearance

is larger than the specified value:
– Change all the damping rubber pieces of the rear hub.
Finishing work
