Control Functions
Name Function
Joystick Controls the horizontal movement of the motorized XY stage. Tilt the stick to the right or light to
move the stage in the X direction, and up or down to move the stage in the Y direction. The stage
can also be moved diagonally. The angle at which the stick is tilted will affect the speed of stage
movement. The more the stick is tilted, the faster the stage will move (within the range of the
selected movement mode of coarse, fine, or extra fine).
XY Speed toggle switch A rotatable switch on the tip of the joystick. Switches the stage XY movement mode for joystick
operation.
Turn the switch in the clockwise direction to change the mode from coarse to fine to extra fine,
and in the counterclockwise direction to switch from extra fine to fine to coarse. The selected
movement mode will be indicated by the “Coarse,” “Fine,” or “ExFine” XY Speed LED.
XY Speed LED “Coarse,” “Fine,” or “ExFine” will light up to indicate the currently selected stage XY movement mode.
Constant Speed
switch
Sets the stage XY movement to constant speed.
Pressing this switch while operating the stage with the joystick will fix the stage movement speed
at the speed at that point. Under constant speed operation, the LED in the switch will light up.
While the LED is lit, the stage will move at the fixed speed regardless of the angle at which the
joystick is tilted.
Press the switch again to exit the constant speed mode (the LED will turn off).
Focus knob Used for operating the elevating section of the Ni-E main body to adjust the focus on the sample.
Turn the joystick controller in the clockwise direction (as viewed from the right side) to raise, and
counterclockwise to lower the elevating section.
Z Speed toggle switch Switches the movement speed of the elevating section of the Ni-E main body from coarse to fine
to extra fine, and then back to coarse.
The selected movement mode will be indicated by the “Coarse,” “Fine,” or “ExFine” Z Speed
LED.
Z Speed LED “Coarse,” “Fine,” or “ExFine” will light up to indicate the currently selected vertical movement mode.
Connection cable Connected to the connector box (ERGO/JOY) on the back of the Ni-E main body.
