4.6 PROTECTION FUNCTIONS
Nominal values
The Base menu offers the following settings:
• Device conguration.
• The selected automation function.
• The conventional designation of the relay.
• Voltage measurement for the synchrocheck function.
• The nominal frequency of the relay.
• The nominal values of the relay, to which the regulations of the thresholds of the various functions
are referenced.
• The primary nominal values of the measuring transformers.
• The formats in which values are displayed.
• Device configuration (RGDM MODE ONLY)
This parameter can be set as BASE or EXTENDED; this enables the device to be installed even on
substations not equipped with or reached by the IP network, and it can also be interfaced with
other devices already in the eld.
• Selected automation function.
This parameter is set as FRT, FSL1 or FSL2; it enables automatic selection of the faulty branch in a
variety of operating modes.
• Designation of the relay
This parameter is an alphanumeric string of up to 16 characters which identies the protected
system.
• Nominal frequency f
n
This must be set to the system's nominal frequency.
Example: System with nominal frequency f
n
= 50 Hz
Set f
n
= 50 Hz
• Primary CT nominal current of phase I
np
Regardless of the sensor type (active or passive), this is set to the xed value I
np
= 500 A.
• Nominal residual voltage of relay (calculated) U
ECn
TYhe nominal calculated residual voltage U
ECn
is calculated automatically by the relay using a vectorial method: U
ECn
= √3∙ U
n
• Nominal primary VT line voltageU
np
(phase-to-phase)
This must be set to the grid's nominal voltage.
• Nominal phase-to-phase voltage of the relay U
n
The SME2-IS detector automatically calculates the nominal secondary voltage U
n
on the basis of
the nominal primary voltage.
• Measurement read mode (display format)
This parameter enables you to display the measured electrical values in the following ways:
- RELATIVE: the values are displayed as relative to the respective nominal values,
- PRIMARY: the values are displayed as the primary value of the electricity grid in the respective
units.
