3 Remote Operation – Ethernet Interface
Reason Switches allow using Ethernet cable connection to configure, update
firmware, do maintenance actions and monitor the equipment. This interface
requires a computer with an Ethernet communication port.
HTTP or HTTPS protocols can be accessed through a Web Browser. If SSH or Telnet
protocols are used, a communication software is necessary and only configuration
and monitoring of current configuration may be performed.
It can be used both Ethernet electrical or optical interfaces. An example of the
electrical direct connection with RJ45 connector (common for most notebooks) is
shown below.
Figure 79: Ethernet RJ45 connector at Reason Switches
To use HTTP/HTTPS, SSH or Telnet protocols, it is necessary to access the equipment through Ethernet interface (electrical or
optical). USB direct connection communication is performed by a serial link at the USB interface.
Factory default, IP address and netmask are:
IP Address 192.168.4.88
Netmask 255.255.255.0
For security reasons, Reason Switches allow using the HTTPS protocol to configure,
monitor, diagnose and perform firmware and configuration settings. When using,
message saying there is a problem with the website certificate may appear because
the web browser software did not find a valid certification for the website, which
does not affect equipment functions. The user must select the Continue in that Site to
enter in the HTTPS interface.
If HTTPS protocol access is needed, type the text https:// before the IP address in the web browser.
