7.5 Upward Integration Modules
The IBM unique Upward Integration Modules (UIMs) for virtualization provide hardware
visibility to the hypervisor for both system and VM management. Each UIM integrates
hardware predictive failure analysis (PFA) and microcode management and diagnostics into
standard hypervisors.
The following versions of UIM are available.
IBM Upward Integration for VMware vCenter (for vSphere 4.1 or later)
IBM Upward Integration for Microsoft System Center 2007 or later
UIM is a plug-in and is installed and accessed from the management console of your
hypervisor. You are no longer required to purchase a license for IBM Systems Director
standard edition to obtain UIM for vCenter or Microsoft System Center.
There is a 90-day trial period for UIM before a license needs to be purchased per managed
server. The part numbers for ordering UIM for VMware vCenter and Microsoft System Center
are listed in Table 7-3.
