3.10 Storage subsystem
In this section, we describe the storage subsystem of X6 servers, including Storage Book,
supported RAID adapters, hard drives, and eXFlash SSD drives. We also discuss high
performance IBM High IOPS adapters, PCIe SSD storage adapters, designed for heavy I/O
workloads.

3.10.1 Storage Book
The Storage Book is another key component of module architecture of the X6 servers and
provides the internal drive storage components. The x3850 X6 server contains one Storage
Book and the x3950 X6 has two Storage Books.
The Storage Book is accessible from the front of the server, contains up to eight 2.5-inch
drives or sixteen 1.8-inch eXFlash SSD drives, up to two PCIe 3.0 x8 RAID-adapters,
operator panel with LCD system information panel, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port,
and one SVGA port.
