3.5 USING THE MACHINE IN THE COLD SEASON
3.5.1 PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN WHEN USING THE MACHINE IN THE
COLD SEASON
During the cold season or in areas where temperatures are particularly low, especially during the night, it is
necessary to take some countermeasures meant to limit any damage deriving from low temperatures.
3.5.1.1 FUEL AND LUBRICANTS
Change fuel and oil with low viscosity products for all components. For details on the required viscosity, see "4.2
MAINTENANCE NOTES".
3.5.1.2 COOLANT
WARNING
q Antifreeze is toxic. Avoid any contact with the eyes or the skin. In case of contact with the eyes or the
skin, wash with plenty of running water and consult a doctor without delay.
q The coolant containing antifreeze is flammable; do not smoke and do not use naked flames during the
checks and when preparing the mixture.
1 - Use only Komatsu original coolant antifreeze (AF-NAC) to dilute according to the minimum atmospheric
temperature indicated in the table in section "4.4.1 COOLANT".
2 - Do not mix different brands of antifreeze.
3 - The use of red permanent antifreeze requires only the check of the level and the periodical change of the
fluid. It is not necessary to wash the cooling circuit.
4 - In case of doubt regarding the applicable standards for the use of permanent antifreeze, contact your
Komatsu Dealer, who will supply you with exhaustive and precise information.
