Erasinglostorforgottenpasswords(clearingCMOS)
Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoeraselostorforgottenpasswords,suchasauserpassword.
Toerasealostorforgottenpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Removeanymediafromthedrivesandturnoffallconnecteddevicesandthecomputer.Then,
disconnectallpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtothe
computer.
2.Removethecomputercover.SeeChapter7“Installingorreplacinghardware”onpage61.
3.LocatetheClearCMOS(ComplementaryMetalOxideSemiconductor)/Recoveryjumperonthesystem
board.See“Partsonthesystemboard”onpage7.
4.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pin1andpin2)tothemaintenanceposition(pin2and
pin3).
5.Reinstallthecomputercoverandconnectthepowercord.SeeChapter7“Installingorreplacing
hardware”onpage61.
6.Turnonthecomputerandleaveitonforapproximately10seconds.Then,turnoffthecomputerby
holdingthepowerbuttonforapproximatelyfiveseconds.
7.Repeatstep1andstep2.
8.MovetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperbacktothestandardposition(pin1andpin2).
9.Reinstallthecomputercoverandconnectthepowercord.

sequencepermanentlyorselectatemporarystartupdevice.
