TROUBLESHOOTING CHARTS
Troubleshooting Charts provides a series of flow charts that
identify problems that could be encountered during normal
operation. These charts contain instructions to assist in
identifying and correcting problems. Follow the procedural
steps in the order indicated. Some steps direct you to other
charts in this manual or reference a specific test that should
be performed to move through the complete troubleshooting
procedure. If directed, consult your Manitowoc dealer or the
Manitowoc Crane Care Lattice Team at the factory before
proceeding.
PROBLEM 1
Engine will not rotate to start.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
Dead battery; Loose connection on battery; Starter or starter solenoid is
damaged; Engine node controller is damaged.
CHECKS
Check for voltage at battery terminals while attempting to start engine (see Section 7 - Battery Maintenance).
24 volts DC or more Less than 24 volts DC
Check engine key switch for voltage from stop to start.
If Good No Voltage
Check battery voltage (see Section 7 - Battery
Maintenance).
24 Volts DC or more
24 Volts DC or less
Check engine stop switch voltage.
Charge or replace battery.
Check starter solenoid circuit breaker.
If Good
If Bad
Check electrical connections in starter circuit from
battery to starter.
Connections Good Connections Bad
Replace starter.
Clean connections.
Replace circuit breaker.
Check starter solenoid and starter motor.
If Good If Bad
Replace starter solenoid, motor, or wiring.
Disengage clutch and attempt to start engine.
Engine Rotates
Engine Does Not Rotate
Pump or pump drive damage.
Disassemble and investigate.
Engine or flywheel is damaged. Disassemble and
investigate. (See engine manual.)
Test engine node controller.
If Good
If Bad
Replace engine node.
Repair or replace
switch.
Yes
No
Repair or replace engine stop/start switch.
