Nozzles are 100% and appears
in solid colors of dark or gray.
Bi-directional banding has to do
with the colors laying down in
different sequence depending
on which direction the carriage
is traveling.
Perform the print head adjustment
procedure.
(see page 175, "Adjusting the Head”).
Select the uni-directional printing

Nozzles are 100%. It appears
in solid colors and the colors
are inconsistent in the scanning
direction of the carriage. This is
caused by the different drops of
CMYK that are not combining
consistently.
This can show in the Speed mode for
CMYK. Print in Fine mode for CMYK.
If the problem still persists, perform
printing in SuperFine mode. Doing so may
improve the image quality.

Air bubbles are present in the
print head.
During an initial ink fill, air is
introduced to the head or after
a head clean cleaning fluid or
air was inadvertently pushed
into the head by the cleaning
applicator.
Let the printer sit overnight. This will give
the air a chance to settle. The nozzle
should be good after this.
The print head nozzle has dried
and is clogged with ink.
The following should be implemented.
1. Clean the print head and the
maintenance unit. See page 131
“3.4.JIG HEAD MAINTENANCE”. See
page 151 “3.7.How to Clean the
Maintenance Unit and the Flushing

2. Select [AUTO HEAD CLEAN] and
perform [STRONG] cleaning for 3 to 5
times. See page 128 “3.3.AUTO HEAD
CLEAN”.
3. Perform Nozzle Strong Maintenance for
3 to 5 times. See page 236 “9.5.Nozzle
Strong Maintenance”.
4. Install the head protection cover filled
with cleaning solution for a certain
period of time to clean the heads. The
following should be implemented.
4.1. Turn off the power.
4.2. Attach the head protection cover to
the carriage. Leave the printer idle for 1
to 3 days (or 1 week if possible) with the
head protection cover attached. For
information on how to attach the head
protection cover, see page 221
