and odorless. Inhal ing exhaust
gases may lead to deat h or a seri-
ous health hazard.
D The exhaust should be checked oc-
casionall y. If t here i s a hole o r
crack caused by corr osion, damage
to a joi nt or abnormal exhaust
noise, be sur e to have the vehi cle
inspected and repai red b y your
Toyota dealer. Fail ure to do so may
allow exhaust gases t o enter the
vehicle, resulti ng in death or a seri-
ous health hazard.
D If the vehicle is i n a poorly venti-
lated area, turn the engine off. In a
closed ar ea, such as a garage, ex-
haust gases may coll ect and enter
the vehicl e. This may lead t o deat h
or a serious health hazard.
D Do not remain for a long time in a
parked vehicle with the engine r un-
ning. If it is unavoidable, however,
do so only in an unconfined area
and adjust the heati ng or cooling
system t o force out side air into the
vehicle.
D If th e smell of exhaust i s noti ced
inside the vehicle, open the win-
dows. Large amounts of exhaust in
the vehicl e can cause dri ver drowsi-
ness and an accident , resulting in
death or a ser ious heal th haz ard.
Have the vehicle i nspected by your
Toyota dealer i mmediately.
D Do not l eave t he engine running i n
an ar ea wi th snow build−up, or
where i t is snowing. If snowbanks
build up around the vehicle while
the engine is runni ng, exhaust
gases may coll ect and ent er the ve-
hicle. This may l ead to death or a
serious healt h hazard.
D When taki ng a nap in the vehicl e,
always tur n the engine off . Other-
wise, you may accident ally move
the shift lever or depress t he accel-
erator pedal, whi ch could cause an
accident or fi re due to engine over-
heating. Additi onally, if the vehicle
is parked in a poorly venti lated
area, exhaust gases may coll ect and
enter t he vehicle, l eading to deat h
or a serious health hazard.
