Basic Digital Operation
Triggering Waveforms
b. Press Trigger S ource and note that for the Ext Source softkey, the default selection is Patt Trig In 1, which
is the selection used in this example.
7. Generate the waveform:
Press
ARB Off On to On.
8. On the function generator, configure a TTL signal for the external gating trigger.
9. (Optional) Monitor the current waveform:
Configure the oscilloscope to display both the output of the signal generator, and the external triggering
signal. You will see the waveform modulating the output during the gate inactive periods (low).
The following figure shows an example display.
NOTE In the real-time Custom mode, the behavior is reversed: when the gating signal is high, you
see the modulated waveform.
Using Segment Advance Triggering
Segment advance triggering enables you to control the segment playback within a waveform sequence. The
following example uses a waveform sequence that has two segments.
If you have not created and stored a waveform sequence, complete the steps in the sections, “Creating
Waveform Segments” on page 107, and “Creating a Waveform Sequence” on page 108.
1. Preset the signal generator.
