Generic maintenance activities
In case of wear, have the belt replaced immediately by the authorized service personnel.
5.8.3 Replacing drive belt — SL 109
q Battery charging alternator cover is removed. (For more information see: 5.8.1 Removing the
battery charging alternator cover, page 106.) .
q New drive belt is available.
q Ratchet wrench (1/2-inch square drive) with lever is available.
q Guiding pin (8 mm (0.31 in) diameter) is available.
q Frequency meter is available.
Removing drive belt

u Install ratchet wrench on tensioning device 1.
u Pivot back tensioning device 1 against the spring force to the limit stop.
u Insert guiding pin (8 mm (0.31 in) diameter) to block the tensioning device.
u Remove drive belt 2.
u Remove guiding pin.
u Release and remove ratchet wrench.

The tensioning device is released.
Installing drive belt
u Install ratchet wrench on tensioning device 1.
u Pivot back tensioning device 1 against the spring force to the limit stop.
u Insert guiding pin (8 mm (0.31 in) diameter) to block the tensioning device.
u Install new drive belt 2.
u Remove guiding pin.
