check your motorcycle at regu-
lar intervals.
Before every journey:
Check operation of the brake
system
Check operation of the lighting
and signal system
Check tire tread depth ( 93).
Check that the Topcase and
luggage are secured in place
At every third refueling stop:
Adjusting spring preload at rear
wheel ( 63).
Check engine oil level ( 84).
Check front brake pad thick-
ness ( 87).
Checking rear brake pad thick-
ness ( 88).
Checking brake fluid level of
front brake ( 89).
Checking brake fluid level for
rear brake ( 90).
Checking coolant level ( 91).
Starting
Starting engine
Switch on the ignition.
Pre-Ride-Check in progress.

ABS self-diagnosis is

ASC self-diagnosis is per-

Operate brake.
NOTICE
Vehicle cannot be started with
side stand extended. If side
stand is extended with engine
running, engine stops.
Press starter button 1.
Engine starts.
Consult the troubleshooting
chart if the engine refuses to

Pre-Ride Check
After the ignition is switched on,
the instrument cluster conducts a
test of the analog instruments as
well as the warning and indica-
tor lights in a "Pre-Ride-Check."
Starting the engine before the
test routine is completed will
cancel the remainder of the rou-
tine.
