Memory map
Table 9 shows the default hexadecimal addresses for the system memory regions. You may use this information for
adapter cards that require you to set up memory regions.
Additional resources may be taken by Plug and Play (PnP) devices. Resources for installed PnP devices, such as the
modem card, can be reassigned by the BIOS or the Windows 95 Device Manager.

Address range Description
0-640 KB (0-9FFFFH) Base memory
640-768 KB (A0000-BFFFFH) VGA mode video memory
768-800 KB (C0000-C7FFFH) Video BIOS
800-896 KB (C8000-DFFFFH) Adapter card memory or upper memory
896-960 KB (E0000-EFFFF) System POST and Rapid Resume BIOS (available for
upper memory)
960-1024 KB (F0000-FFFFFH) System BIOS (some may be available for upper memory)
1024 KB-64 MB (100000-3FFFFFFF) Extended memory
192 MB-256 MB (C000000H-FFFFFFFF) Linear video memory
256 MB-257 MB (10000000-10000FFF) Memory-mapped I/O for video
